RF Microneedling

RF microneedling is an advanced medical skin treatment that combines controlled microneedling with radiofrequency energy. It is used to stimulate collagen production, improve skin firmness, refine texture, and support gradual skin tightening.

By delivering radiofrequency energy directly into the deeper layers of the skin, RF microneedling targets structural skin changes associated with aging, acne scarring, enlarged pores, or loss of elasticity. The treatment works below the surface while preserving the outer skin layer as much as possible.

At Dr. Saljo, RF microneedling is approached as a medical skin procedure. Each session is planned individually based on skin quality, anatomy, treatment area, and long-term goals — with a strong focus on safety, precision, and natural regeneration.

Science Behind

RF microneedling combines two regenerative principles: controlled mechanical stimulation and targeted thermal energy.

The microneedles create precise microchannels in the skin. This activates the body’s natural wound-healing response and stimulates fibroblasts — the cells responsible for producing collagen, elastin, and other structural components of the skin.

At the same time, radiofrequency energy is delivered through the needles into the deeper dermal layers. This creates controlled heat below the surface of the skin, where collagen remodeling and tissue tightening are most relevant. The heat effect can lead to immediate collagen contraction, followed by gradual collagen renewal over the following weeks and months.

The concept developed from two established treatment principles: microneedling, also known as collagen induction therapy, and radiofrequency-based tissue heating. By combining both, RF microneedling allows controlled stimulation of deeper skin structures while limiting unnecessary injury to the skin surface.

This is why RF microneedling is especially useful for concerns such as skin laxity, fine lines, enlarged pores, acne scars, and uneven texture. The result is not instant transformation, but a progressive rebuilding process that improves skin quality and firmness over time.

Treatment Areas

RF microneedling is suitable for improving skin quality, firmness, and texture in a variety of aesthetic indications.

Depending on individual skin condition and goals, RF microneedling may be used for:

  • Skin laxity and loss of firmness

  • Fine lines and under-eye wrinkles

  • Enlarged pores

  • Acne scars

  • Body scars

  • Stretch marks

  • Uneven skin texture

Common treatment areas include:

  • Face

  • Neck

  • Décolleté

  • Eye area

  • Areas with scars or stretch marks on the body

Treatment depth and energy settings are adapted individually for each area to support effective results while maintaining skin safety.

Planning & Safety

Each RF microneedling treatment begins with a structured skin assessment. Skin thickness, elasticity, scarring, sensitivity, pigmentation tendency, and overall skin condition are evaluated before selecting treatment parameters.

Treatment depth, radiofrequency energy, and needle configuration are adjusted individually rather than following standardized protocols. This allows precise targeting of the dermal layers where collagen stimulation is most effective.

RF microneedling is a medical procedure that requires anatomical knowledge, experience with energy-based devices, and careful parameter selection. A conservative, safety-focused approach is used, particularly in sensitive areas such as the eye region and neck.

Combination Treatments

For optimal results, RF microneedling is often combined with treatments that address complementary aspects of skin aging, tissue quality, and facial balance.

Depending on individual needs, this may include:

  • Regenerative Treatments
To support healing, hydration, and cellular repair with treatments such as exosomes, PRP, polynucleotides, or skinboosters.

  • Biostimulators
To enhance collagen stimulation, improve firmness, and strengthen long-term tissue quality.

  • Laser & Light-Based Treatments
To improve pigmentation, redness, sun damage, and superficial skin clarity when these concerns are present in addition to laxity or texture changes.

  • Dermal Fillers
To restore structural support or facial contour when volume loss contributes to sagging or an aged appearance.

  • Aesthetic Botox
To soften dynamic wrinkles and reduce excessive muscle activity when movement-related lines are part of the overall concern.

Good to Know

Treatment time
Usually 30–60 minutes, depending on the treatment area.

Comfort during treatment
A numbing cream is applied before treatment to ensure comfort. Treatment is generally well tolerated.

Downtime
Mild redness, swelling, or pinpoint bleeding may occur and typically resolves within a few days. Social downtime is usually minimal.

When results appear
Initial skin improvement may be visible within weeks. Collagen remodeling continues over several months, leading to progressive improvement.

How many sessions are needed
A series of treatments is often recommended for optimal results. The number of sessions depends on skin condition, treatment area, and individual goals.

Side effects & risks
Temporary redness, swelling, sensitivity, or small pinpoint crusting may occur. Potential risks and rare complications are discussed during consultation.

Expectations
The goal is gradual skin tightening, texture refinement, and collagen stimulation — not immediate dramatic change. Results develop naturally over time.
