Biostimulators

Biostimulators are injectable medical treatments designed to improve skin quality, firmness, and structural support by stimulating the body’s own regenerative processes. Rather than creating volume in the classical sense, they activate collagen and elastin production, leading to gradual, natural tissue improvement.

At Dr. Saljo, biostimulator treatments are approached as medical facial procedures. Treatment planning is based on anatomy, tissue quality, skin thickness, facial proportions, and long-term structural support. Where clinically indicated, ultrasound imaging may be used to support precise placement and treatment safety.

Biostimulators are particularly suitable for patients seeking gradual, natural rejuvenation, improved skin texture, and long-term tissue health.

Types of Biostimulators Used

Radiesse®
Radiesse® is a calcium-based biostimulator that provides immediate structural support while stimulating collagen production over time. It is a versatile treatment that can be used undiluted when structural support, contouring, lifting, or definition is needed, and diluted or hyperdiluted when the goal is broader collagen stimulation and skin quality improvement. Depending on the treatment plan, Radiesse® may help improve firmness, tissue support, skin thickness, elasticity, and overall texture.

Because it can be adapted through product placement and dilution, Radiesse® can support different goals: undiluted product may be used for selected lifting, contouring, and structural support, while diluted protocols are used more diffusely to improve skin quality, crepiness, and firmness. It can be applied in selected facial and body areas, with results developing gradually as collagen stimulation progresses.

Profhilo® Structura
Profhilo® Structura is designed to support deeper tissue layers and address early age-related structural changes. It is used only in the face, where it focuses on improving tissue quality and support in areas affected by early laxity and loss of firmness. The effect is subtle but noticeable, creating a refreshed appearance while preserving natural facial expression and proportions.

This treatment is suitable for patients seeking structural skin support and improved tissue architecture while maintaining a natural appearance.

Treatment Areas

Biostimulators are used to improve skin quality, firmness, and tissue structure in areas affected by aging, loss of elasticity, or reduced collagen production.

Depending on individual anatomy and treatment goals, biostimulators may be used in the following areas:

  • Face and midface

  • Jawline and lower face

  • Neck and décolleté

  • Hands

  • Selected body areas with reduced skin firmness

Treatment selection and placement depend on skin quality, tissue thickness, anatomy, and the desired regenerative or structural effect.

Planning & Safety

Each treatment begins with a structured facial and skin assessment. Skin quality, elasticity, tissue thickness, volume distribution, and facial proportions are evaluated to determine which product and technique are most appropriate.

A 3D facial analysis is used to assess structural relationships and guide individualized treatment planning. This supports precise product selection and injection strategy rather than standardized protocols.

In anatomically sensitive or higher-risk areas, ultrasound imaging may be used to visualize tissue planes and underlying structures, supporting accurate placement and enhanced treatment safety.

Biostimulators are medical products that require detailed anatomical knowledge and clinical experience. Product choice, injection depth, dilution, dosage, and treatment intervals are tailored individually, with a conservative, safety-focused approach.

Combination Treatments

For optimal and long-lasting results, biostimulators are often combined with complementary treatments that address different layers of facial aging, skin quality, and tissue support.

Depending on individual needs, this may include:

  • Aesthetic Botox
To reduce excessive muscle activity, soften expression lines, and improve facial balance, especially when dynamic movement contributes to wrinkles or downward pull.

  • Dermal Fillers
To restore targeted structural support or contour in areas where volume loss or anatomical deficiency cannot be corrected by collagen stimulation alone.

  • Regenerative Treatments
To improve hydration, glow, texture, and regenerative skin health with treatments such as skinboosters, polynucleotides, PRP, exosomes, or medical peels.

  • RF Microneedling
To stimulate collagen remodeling, improve skin firmness, and refine texture, especially when skin laxity or acne scarring is part of the concern.

  • Laser & Light-Based Treatments
To improve pigmentation, redness, sun damage, and overall skin clarity, complementing the deeper tissue-supporting effect of biostimulators.

Good to Know

Treatment time
Usually 30–60 minutes, depending on the product used and treatment areas.

Comfort during treatment
Treatment is generally well tolerated. Numbing cream may be applied if needed.

Downtime
Minimal downtime. Mild swelling, redness, tenderness, or bruising may occur. Normal daily activities can usually be resumed shortly after treatment.

When results appear
Results develop gradually. Some improvement in hydration or skin quality may appear earlier, while collagen stimulation and tissue firmness continue to improve over several weeks to months.

How long results last
Depending on the product used and individual response, results typically last between 6–18 months.

Repeat treatments
Maintenance treatments may be recommended to support long-term tissue quality. Treatment intervals are planned individually.

Side effects & risks
Temporary swelling, redness, tenderness, or bruising at injection sites may occur. Potential risks and rare complications are discussed during consultation.

Expectations
The goal is natural skin rejuvenation, improved tissue quality, and gradual firmness — not immediate visible transformation or over-volumization. Results develop progressively and integrate harmoniously with facial anatomy.
